My Morning Routine + Delicious Green Smoothie Recipe

By May 8, 2013 No Comments

There is no perfect way to start your morning, but I like to start mine by hydrating and alkalizing my body.

I drink 1 – 1.5 litres of water with freshly squeezed lime or lemon juice first thing in the morning. Our bodies are most dehydrated in the morning because we do not take any liquids in the form of food or drink for more than 8 hours; however, our cells carry on with all the functions, including elimination. We need to flush toxic waste and replenish the lost water in the morning.

Squeezing fresh lime or lemon juice in your water will help eliminate toxins, hydrate and alkalize your body.

You should drink your water slowly. It takes me 30-40 min to get my 1.5 litres in. In the meantime, I meditate, visualise and plan my day. This is a sacred time for me, where I spend it only on myself, nourish self-love and prepare for the day.

Then I do some light exercising. It can be walking on the beach, dancing to my favourite music, incline walking on a treadmill or swimming. Moving your body on an empty stomach will help you get into a better shape! You don’t need to do any intense exercising, just move your body in your favourite way!

After my light morning workout I have a smoothie! I love smoothies, they’re a perfect way to get the nutrients and energy!

This morning I had this absolutely delicious green smoothie!

  • 3 ripe bananas (2 of them frozen)
  • 2 cups of shredded kale
  • 1 sweet ripe mango
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 1/3 cups coconut milk
  • Dash of cinnamon

Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Feel free to add more water for desired consistency.

I love this green smoothie. If you try it, let me know what you think in the comments below!

Have a beautiful day!
